There are villas within resorts, providing guests with access to all the resort amenities like golf, tennis, spa, restaurants and watersports, and there are stand-alone villas. Some villas are fully staffed with chef and butler and if not, you can typically hire a chef to prepare a special dinner in your villa. If you villa is not staffed, provisioning services will provide all you need for your vacation, customized to your preferences.
Most people assume villa vacations are only for luxury travelers, but at times villas can be quite affordable, especially when there is a sizeable group sharing the cost of a large villa. Recently, my favorite vacations include St. Barths, Anguilla, Jumby Bay private island Antigua, and sailing the British Virgin Islands. Next adventures: St. Barths with friends, island-hopping trip to BVI (Guana Island, Oil Nut Bay and Little Dix Bay). I can't wait to take my family to Italy next year, and sail the Greek Isles for the first time next fall with friends!
